HEARTLAND FILM FESTIVAL HELPS SALUTE HOLLYWOOD ICON’S 90TH BIRTHDAY
Monday, May 1st is the 90th birthday of one of the most legendary icons from Hollywood’s Golden Age, Glenn Ford. To celebrate this landmark occasion, Heartland Film Festival® is partnering with the American Cinematheque, Turner Classic Movies and Variety to present a special 90th birthday screening of one of Glenn Ford’s most famous films, the 1946 classic “Gilda” co-starring Rita Hayworth. The event will take place at the American Cinematheque’s permanent home, the restored 1922 landmark movie palace Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
“For 15 years, Heartland Film Festival has been committed to honoring Truly Moving Pictures and the visionaries behind them,” said Jeffrey L. Sparks, president of Heartland Film Festival. “Glenn Ford's career set him apart as one of the pioneers of Hollywood with films like ‘Blackboard Jungle’ and ‘Ransom.’ Heartland is thrilled to participate in this tribute to a great American legend, Glenn Ford, and to continue to share our message with Hollywood and the rest of the nation.”
Glenn Ford will make a very rare personal appearance at the event, his first public appearance in 15 years. Ford will be present for the pre-screening birthday salutations, which will include special messages from dignitaries and friends honoring a Hollywood career that spanned seven decades of the 20th century.
After the pre-screening birthday salutations, attendees will see a restored 35mm print of “Gilda” (courtesy of Sony Pictures) and an ultra-rare 1937 short film of Glenn Ford’s big screen debut. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Peter Ford (Glenn Ford’s son and biographer) and special guests who worked with Glenn Ford during his 54 working years in 108 film and television roles.
The event will culminate with a champagne and birthday cake reception for attendees.
