Heartland Film Festival Announces 15th Anniversary Poster Design Contest
Indianapolis, IN – The Indianapolis-based Heartland Film Festival® will celebrate 15 years of honoring Truly Moving Pictures during the annual Festival, October 19–27, 2006. To commemorate this special anniversary celebration, Heartland is inviting artists and students to create an original work of art that will visually depict the Festival’s mission: to recognize and honor filmmakers whose work explores the human journey by artistically expressing hope and respect for the positive values of life.
The winning work of art will be used to create a commemorative anniversary poster that will be distributed to Festival sponsors, filmmakers and special guests that attend the 2006 Festival. Heartland will retain the original winning artwork to display at the office. Additionally, the winning entry will be used for promotional purposes and may be available for sale with proceeds benefiting the non-profit Heartland Film Festival.
The winning artist will receive a $1,500 cash prize, name recognition on the poster and credit in earned media and on Heartland’s Web site. The artist’s name will also be listed in the Heartland Film Festival guidebook, which is distributed at various special events and screening locations in Indianapolis during the Festival. In addition, the winning artist will be asked to participate in the unveiling of the piece during Heartland’s Announcement Celebration in September.
Judging will take place the week of July 17, 2006. Artwork will be viewed and voted on by members of Heartland Film Festival. They will consider overall impact of design, artistic merit, creativity and the appropriateness of the subject matter as it relates to the Heartland Film Festival. The winner will be selected on or before July 25, 2006.
All entries must be submitted to Heartland by 5 pm on Friday, July 14.
For the official contest rules and regulations, visit www.HeartlandFilmFestival.org or contact Kristi Wilkinson at 317/464-9405 or kwilkinson@heartlandfilmfestival.org.
Heartland Film Festival, a non-profit organization, was established in 1991 to recognize and honor filmmakers whose work explores the human journey by artistically expressing hope and respect for the positive values of life. Each October, Heartland screens Truly Moving Pictures from around the world and presents cash prizes and Crystal Heart Awards to the Festival’s top entries. In 2006, Heartland will increase its total prize money to $200,000. This includes doubling its Grand Prize for Best Dramatic Feature to $100,000 and two new awards: a $25,000 cash prize for Best Documentary Feature and a $10,000 cash prize for Best Short Film. The remaining $65,000 will be shared among the 2006 Crystal Heart and Jimmy Stewart Memorial Crystal Heart Award winners. The Crystal Heart Award cash prizes are made possible by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. and the Max Simon Charitable Foundation. Including the 2006 prize money, Heartland will have awarded more than $1.6 million in 15 years to support filmmakers in their quest to create Truly Moving Pictures.
