Heartland Film Festival will kick off its 2006 Festival with the U.S. premiere of Samuel Goldwyn Films/Roadside Attractions' and Bristol Bay Productions' Amazing Grace at the IMAX Theater. Get a glimpse of this film before it hits theaters this February. After the evening screening, there will be a reception and question and answer session with the filmmakers at the Eiteljorg Museum.

Heartland invites you to celebrate this year's Crystal Heart Award winners. Carlos Diaz (Extra Correspondent) will emcee this year’s awards ceremony as filmmakers and guests from around the world gather to honor the visionaries and films at the 2006 Festival. In addition, the Saab Pioneering Spirit Award will be presented to Producer Debra Martin Chase (Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream, The Princess Diaries, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) for her creative spirit in filmmaking and supporting Heartland's mission. Heartland will also announce the $100,000 Grand Prize Winner for Best Dramatic Feature, $25,000 Best Documentary Feature and $10,000 Vision Award for Best Short Film.

After the awards program, mingle with filmmakers and stars during the Afterglow Party sponsored by Baker & Daniels LLP while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and live music by the Toy Factory.

Looks like Heartland Film Festival has gone to the puppies! The 2006 Kids’ Movie Party features Air Bud’s puppies (Rose-Bud, B-Dawg, Budderball, Buddha and Mud-Bud) in their own brand new movie Air Buddies. After the screening, there will be a party with refreshments and fun activities for all ages!

This film is preceded by The Little Matchgirl, a short animated film from Roger Allers.

The Nativity Story chronicles the arduous journey of two people, Mary and Joseph, a miraculous pregnancy, and the history-defining birth of Jesus. This dramatic and compelling story comes to life in a major motion picture starring Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) as Mary, Oscar Isaac (Guerrilla) as Joseph, and Academy Award® nominee Shoreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog) as Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. The Nativity Story is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown) from a screenplay by Mike Rich (The Rookie, Finding Forrester). This film is scheduled to open worldwide in December 2006.

Film fans, students and filmmakers alike are welcome to participate in this all-day educational program. In the morning session, come hear “The Variety Code: Searching for Meaning at the Box Office,” as Steven Gaydos (executive editor/international managing director of Variety magazine) gives you the inside scoop on what Hollywood and the movie-making business are really like. Gaydos will also cover aspects of what it takes to “make it” as a filmmaker and what kind of influence publications like Variety can have on the entertainment industry.

Gaydos serves on the Board of the British Independent Film Awards and the Hartley-Merrill Screenwriting Awards and is a member of the Writers Guild of America, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts adn the European Film Academy.  Gaydos is the author of The Variety Guide to Film Festivals (Perigee Books); co-author of Movietalk from the Frontlines (McFarland Press) and editor of Cannes:  50 Years of Sun, Sex and Celluloid (Miramax Books).

The afternoon session, “An Inside Look into the World of Film,” will feature a panel of award-winning filmmakers who will share their experiences in creating movies and working in the film industry. Join them for tips, discussion and a question and answer session.
